Universities UK have just published the 2007 version of their annual publication Higher Education in Facts & Figures: Summer 2007. This contains authoritative data about the HE system, including student and staff numbers and student subject areas. For example, there are now 168 HEIs in the UK and 106 Universities, and public expenditure on tertiary education institutions as a percentage of GDP was 0.8% in 2003.
