Conservatives establish New Enterprise Council

The Independent reports today that the Conservatives have set up a new advisory group, the New Enterprise Council.  The group will be launched today by George Osborne, the shadow Chancellor.  While this aims to capitalise on the concerns of business leaders with the Chancellor’s proposal to remove taper relief on capital gains tax, it also follows on from the recent research into state of enterprise in the UK sponsored by the Conservative Party.

The Conservative Party said that the Council will advise the shadow Chancellor on its priorities for government action, with initial discussions considering the country’s environment for entrepreneurship and investment.  Members of the Council include Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou (easyJet), Brent Hoberman (, Surinder Arora, Tamara Mellon (Jummy Choo), Iqbal Ahmed (Seamark Group), and Stefan Glaenzer (
