Focus on China

24 01 2008

The focus of the British press was on China last week when  Gordon Brown visited China for the first time as Prime Minister.  Mr Brown no doubt discussed his active partnership with the British Council in promoting Anglo-Chinese education partnerships through PMI2 Connect, which encourages UK HEIs to develop and build bi-lateral international partnerships, and the Global Fellowship for young people.

His visit came at a time when economic growth in China reaches a thirteen-year high, although China’s central bank recently reported that the country’s entrepreneur confidence is falling as more entrepreneurs deem the country’s economy is getting overheated.   It is timely therefore that, the Chinese Government vowed to improve higher education during the same week, and Ian Robertson and Paul Hannon of the NCGE also visited Shanghai and Beijing, to support the development of entrepreneurship education in China and build on existing links.  Their visit received press coverage in China in the The People’s Daily.
